The Pinkprint Movie Review

tumblr_ngv439JpRS1sghqy6o1_1280Nicki Minaj has been in full promo mode with her new album, The Pinkprint, and she’s released a mini-movie. The 16 minute video features an intro of ‘All Things Go’ before splitting into three parts for tracks: ‘The Crying Game’, ‘I Lied’, and ‘Grand Piano’.

‘The Crying Game’ is her getting into a fight with her boyfriend (or whatever),Willy Monfret ,after a night out. That green dress she has on looks great. She leaves him standing there as the video shows her driving around in her Range Rover, tears shed hear and there. Ladies in a relationship can understand getting into a fight and driving around in your feelings. You’re driving, but you’re still in your feelings not really paying attention. The track abruptly ends when Nicki’s truck is hit on the passenger side.

I was expecting part 2, ‘I Lied’, to show that she was in a hospital or something, but she ended up in the back of a car driven by Boris Kodjoe. This song is showing another side of Nicki as she sings more than she raps. It’s showing that she doesn’t want to move on because of what she’s previously dealt with, but that’s all lies. It’s just a way of protecting herself from being hurt again. She gets the little butterfly stitch and she casually gets semi-intimate with “the other guy” that seems to care.

Part 3, ‘Grand Piano’, shows Nicki in a red dress and back with her boyfriend. They are out somewhere as people stop and stare and look at them. The video fits well with the lyrics of the song. Another one of Nicki singing. People look on knowing how the guy treats her yet she stays. Most importantly, she stays. So he plays her heart like a grand piano and she says play on. It ends with her driving off with him in a fancy car with “the other guy” looking on. I guess she made her decision.

I’m very impressed and I love that it’s not all over the place. There’s a theme to it and all three songs are amazing. My favorite out of the three is ‘Crying Game’. Full review of The Pinkprint coming soon.

Single Review: Madonna x Nicki Minaj, ‘Bitch I’m Madonna’

1328541755_nikki-minaj-madonna-560I have been reading on various sites online that new Madonna music is coming and here is proof of that. Madonna is teaming up with Nicki Minaj for yet another track this time it’s titled, ‘Bitch I’m Madonna’. The two previously teamed up for “Give Me All Your Luvin” with M.I.A. when Madonna did halftime at Superbowl XLVI (2012).  I love the title  of the track first off because Madonna is that bitch.

Ok aside from Madonna being as great as she is when I first heard this track I was like eh. It sounded very kiddie. Her return reminds me of Gwen Stefani’s simply because I of course am expecting more. Then that beat drop and I could see this hitting the airwaves simply because of the EDM feel. With that beat dropping I expect some dope choreo in the video. Only time will tell for that.

I love Nicki’s flow on this one and it works because with a title like this you can only come on the track and talk shit. I love how versatile Nicki is whether people like her for her pop or hip hop. She’s good at what she does. The track overall is cool. Cool as in tolerable to listen to. I’m interested in hearing what else she’s going to bring to the table in 2015.

madonna-rebelheartThis track will be featured on Madonna’s upcoming album, Rebel Heart, expected to be released March 20, 2015. It is available for pre-order on iTunes and upon pre-order you will receive five other tracks in addition to this one: ‘Living for Love’, ‘Devil Pray’, ‘Ghosttown’, ‘Unapologetic Bitch’, and ‘Illuminati’. The album will consist of 19 tracks. None of the names for the other tracks are available except for one to be titled ‘Joan of Arc’. From the snippets available on iTunes, I love  ‘Living for Your Love’.

You do not need to pre-order the album to get any of the six tracks, they are also available for separate purchases.

All-Female Top 5 for the 5th Consecutive Week on the Hot 100

picI initially blogged, nearly a month ago, that the ladies had dominated the top 5 of the Hot 100 (CLICK HERE for that post). For the 5th consecutive week the ladies are still ruling over the top 5 and have set a record with the success.

In at #1 is Meghan Trainor‘s, ‘All About That Bass’ followed by Billboard’s Woman of the Year, Taylor Swift in at #2 with ‘Shake It Off’. In at #3 is Iggy Azalea‘s, ‘Black Widow’, featuring Rita Ora, #4 is Jessie Js ‘Bang Bang’ featuring Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, and at #5 is Nicki Minaj‘s ‘Anaconda’. Congrats to Nicki as it was announced this week that ‘Anaconda’ has gone platinum.

The other longest feat for women in the top 5 of the Hot 100 happened in 1999. Monica‘s (‘Angel of Mine’), Britney Spears (‘…Baby One More Time’), Deborah Cox (‘Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here’), Cher (‘Believe’) and Brandy‘s (‘Have You Ever’)in the top 5 at that time.

Video Review: August Alsina x Nicki Minaj, ‘No Love (Remix)’

Before I even get into the review, prayers to August Alsina as he passed out at his New York show () this past week. The latest update was that he was in ICU as he had suffered from seizures that were brought on by exhaustion and dehydration. He posted on his Instagram yesterday (9/19) a very graphic picture stating that he had been in a 3 day coma. Again, prayers for his speedy recovery.

Much success to August Alsina as he headlines his own tour, The Testimony Tour, titled after his debut and he will be hitting the road this fall with Usher for the ‘UR Experience’. After much anticipation and teasing for his video with Nicki Minaj, the video for the ‘No Love (Remix)’ has been released.

tumblr_nc2pp2aGxs1ra1m7qo1_500Moving on to the review, August drops off this girl before the video shoots to his love interest, Ms. Nicki Minaj. He ends up at the house with her. She plays in his hair, but ends up having his secret revealed as the other girl calls while he was taking a selfie with Nicki. He doesn’t ignore it, he gets up and answers it. He can’t deny what’s going on. I mean he has a picture for the girl in his phone. No he’s not involved in any way (sarcasm).

Then he ends up at a club with the girl Ariana. It wouldn’t be a video with a reference to ‘bandz’ WITHOUT a club scene. Nicki continuously calls, but of course with him in the club and creeping and he ignores them all.

tumblr_nbz4tdeJ1X1rnz1gso1_250Sidebar — Nicki’s white ensemble is super cute. While I love the caged metallic/silver vest it wasn’t needed in the outfit.

After the club Ariana calls again and he ends up looking through his camera roll at the pictures he had taken with Nicki. Boom, all is well, he floods the kitchen with roses with the message ‘All I Want Is You’. Hurray for love.

Overall, it’s a cute video. I hate videos all about the club, but this worked. Thumbs up for the story line.

Again prayers for August’s recovery.

Video Review: Usher x Nicki Minaj, ‘She Came To Give It To You’

ursher

Usher performed his latest single, ‘She Came to Give It To You’ LIVE at the VMAs this past Sunday (8.24) and the visual has arrived along with a new single ‘Believe Me’ (review on its way). The theme of the video is an underground club. He was into a corner store, walks to the back and there’s men playing cards as he makes his way past them moving to the club part. That part of the video isn’t anything that I haven’t seen before as Trey Songz featured a similar concept in his ‘Na Na’ video (CLICK HERE for that review). Initially upon seeing still shots from the video I thought it looked a lot like ‘U Don’t Have to Call’, but I am surprised and really enjoyed it.

Getting back into the review, once Usher gets into the club, the beat drops and he is dancing his ass off. He’s performing the song with a band at certain scenes and at other times he’s singing in shadows with a dancer. The choreo is really nice and while it’s nothing crazy I love the vibe of the moves with the sound. As I stated in track review, this vibe reminds me of Earth Wind and Fire. I love how he was able to build on the groove and make it modern.

Insert Nicki Minaj who doesn’t make her appearance inside the club, but she’s in the TV room which was shown earlier in the video. She raps and does her thing and then she and Usher have cute little still shots in the video. Other than the short Pharrell cameo, Usher’s love interest in the video was Taylour Paige from Hit The Floor. Kudos to Usher on this one. I really like it.

Video Review: Jessie J, ‘Bang Bang’

bang-bang-videoThe visual for ‘Bang Bang’ has been released and the performance on the VMAs was a sight to see. The video is very similar to that of their Beats commercial so the commercial was really a sneak peak into what to expect. Jessie J does the whole bend and snap hair swing and shoulder shake, nothing with a bunch of umph. She could’ve went harder with the choreo. Her outfit was cute, trousers, suspenders, crop top, and heels. The curly hair is cute on her and I love it way more than the slicked back pony tail she’s been rocking elsewhere. Ariana is such a doll, literally. She’s dancing around with a megaphone spray painted with ‘Bang’ and her two piece white lace ensemble with white heels is pretty cute. Her voice usually annoys me, but she works well with this song (as mentioned in my initial track review). Then there’s Ms. Minaj. Nicki spits her bars from the rooftop in front of a helicopter in a  black leather top, leopard skirt, and black heels. I love the simplicity of her looks as of late. Nothing outlandish. The video ends with the ladies on top of the rooftop in new outfits. Nicki has on a neon yellow skirt with matching heels and a colorful bra. Jessie has on an interesting dress that’s the same as what she wore on the VMAs except in a metallic zebra print. Ariana is no surprise in yet another TWO PIECE that’s shiny with what looks like a pink chevron.

The video overall could’ve used some more choreo, but the ladies looked great so points for that. Ovther than that it was just alright.
