Katy Perry, Super Bowl XLIX, Halftime Review

I love doing reviews and the Super Bowl Pepsi Halftime Show is included. Two years ago it was Beyoncè, last year Bruno Mars (click HERE for that review), and this year KATY PERRY! I’m a huge fan of her music and I was interested in seeing not only what she’d perform, but how she would do it.

I had expected for her to perform:

  • ‘Firework’
  • Roar’
  • ‘California Gurls’
  • ‘Dark Horse’
  • ‘Last Friday Night’

Out of those five, she performed four. Not too shabby for my predictions. She came out to “Roar’ on a  geometric lion in a fiery two piece. Switch over to ‘Dark Horse’ with the same geometric themed set and then insert Lenny Kravitz jamming to ‘I Kissed a Girl.’ She didn’t show too much skin, but she dropped it for Lenny. She then had an outfit change into a beach ball inspired two piece and performed ‘Teenage Dream’ and ‘California Gurls.’ The set for that reminded me her ‘This Is How We Do’ video (click HERE for to check it out) with the dancing shark, beach balls, surf board, and palm trees.

Just when you thought it was over, it wasn’t. She kept going and I don’t mean that in a good way. She then brought out Missy Elliot who performed not one, not two, but THREE SONGS: ‘Get Ur Freak On,’ ‘Work It,’ and ‘Lose Control.’ No pop when she came out. Katy threw on a dope hoodie and even did a little choreo during ‘Get Ur Freak On.’ Just a little two step. Missy took me back with the hits though. I surely rapped along.

If you got a big _ let me search it

Once Missy was done Katy came back out and did ‘Firework as she floated through the arena on a Star that looked like something from a kids show. I was ok with her other outfits, but I didn’t like the star dress. She could’ve just done all sequins or something.

Overall the performance was pretty boring. Boring as in I wasn’t all that interested. There was no pop from the crowd, no buzz. I love that she brought out Lenny Kravitz and Missy Elliot, but this new generation doesn’t know who they are. No one seemed to scream when Missy came out.  Lenny Kravitz wasn’t a surprise because they kept saying through the first half that he’d be a part of the performance. How do you bring out someone and have them do three songs and you’re the headliner? She could’ve started rapping or something.

It just wasn’t what I expected and when it was over I was ready for the game to come back on. She did too much and while it’s great to bring out other stars during her set, it was just too much music. Never thought I’d say that, but it was. I would’ve preferred for her to elongate the songs she performed.

Russell Wilson took a shower and changed into a new uniform during Halftime. That pun right there shows that I could’ve been doing something else. Eh, it was alright. It wasn’t horrible, just not great compared to her predecessors.

Last year the game was a dud with a great Super Bowl performance. This year it was reversed. Still a fan of KP, just not this performance. Until next year…

Rihanna Pulled from Thursday Night Football

While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Atlanta Falcons square off in the third Thursday Night Football game of the season, there will be a change to the opening song. In the wake of the domestic violence case with Ray Rice Rihanna’s, ‘Run This Town’ (it’s actually Jay-Z’s song; Blueprint 3; featuring Rihanna & Kanye), was pulled from CBS last week as the Ravens played the Steelers.

Sunday Rant (V.13): Black & Yellow + Fantasy Football Picks

Let the Sunday Rants commence. It’s been MONTHS since I’ve just typed whatever, no holds barred, and with football season in full swing, it’s time for the weekly Sunday rants to continue. I’m no stranger to blogging about football, but I haven’t said anything since 2011. Let’s get back to it.

Sunday Rant (V.5): Super Bowl BLOWOUT

So I decided to wait and do my rant until the Super Bowl was OFFICIALLY over. First off congrats are in order. The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos and are the CHAMPS OF THE WORLD (really not really). Let’s get to the matter at hand. Living in Jersey I did expect it to be cold, but it was actually nice out considering we’re under a Winter Storm Watch for two storms Maximus and Nikita.

Bruno Mars, Super Bowl XLVIII, Halftime Review

Let me first start by saying that I was semi-excited to know Bruno was performing at the Super Bowl, but I did raise my eyebrows at the fact that he would be bringing out the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Now, nothing against their music I was just curious to how it would all pan out.

Sunday Rant (V.3): Drake on SNL + NFL Talk

This week isn’t going to be a long drawn out rant, but I did want to share my feelings on Drake on SNL and the two teams going to the Superbowl.

Let’s get to it.

First off, Drake did an AMAZING job on SNL from the music to all the skits. I’m glad it wasn’t corny or over the top. My favorites included ‘Resolution, Revolution,’ & the A-Rod skit. Here was my #1 fav:

I celebrate Hannukah, dated Rihannaka

CLASSIC BARS! He was undeniably HILARIOUS in his skits. So were a little more bland than others but overall it was a great show.

Moving on to the NFL I first want to start off by saying I am a STEELERS fan. My team was not the best (clearly), but we did finish the season strong. Before I get to the prediction can we PLEASE address Richard Sherman’s rant postgame.

Granted Crabtree did mush his face, but did he have to go crazy like that in an interview? I understand his excitement/emotion being that the incident just happened, but that was just a bit MUCH for me. By the look of the reporters face she was stunned and confused.

Sooo… heading to Met Life Stadium for Superbowl XLVIII (48) are the Denver Broncos versus the Seattle Seahawks. My winner would have to be the Broncos. Picture this. Peyton wins on his younger brothers home backyard. Clear set up for a brother on brother quarterback brawl to see who’ll get the 3rd ring first. Just a theory.

I’m in no rush for the Broncos to win because they’ll have fine and if the Brother/Brother showdown does happen they would have a chance to tie with the Steelers. As a fan I like that we’re the only team with 6 rings. I would like to keep it like that.

Aside from that the Superbowl is going to be in Jersey and being a Jersey resident I can’t wait for it to all be over because the traffic is going to be RIDICULOUS!

Welp, that’s all for this week. Stay tuned for Motivational Monday, New Music Tuesday, my workout playlist and fitness post on Wednesday, Then & Now Thursday with my favorite Superbowl performances & a Friday filled of beauty reviews.

Until next time…
